Chuck Carlin Reports on the Chapter After the Florida International Game
|
Too bad if you didn't get by the Delta Chi Chapter House on Bama vs. Fla. Int'l. game day last Saturday, because the student members did it up right. After noting how great the house and grounds looked, the most positive thing immediately apparent was the outstanding 27 associate members that have just been pledged. Not only did they all make a great impression in their blue sport coats, khaki pants, white shirts and ties, they were also much involved in the preparation of the house for the day's guests and obviously very excited and happy about it being their first Bama home game as members of the Chapter. All were very friendly and well-spoken. And they were accompanied by many attractive young ladies! (I had arrived at the CH early - 10 a.m. - because Mike Dodson, "A," and I had a pre-game meeting with a contractor about some immediately pending work on the house.)
The Student Chapter is to be congratulated for the very successful rush just completed. And with the excellent SC record of recent years, no doubt most, if not all, of this impressive AM class will be initiated into the Bond in short order.
Back to the events of the day: the SC went out of its way to provide what, to my recollection, was the best food ever served by the SC on a football game day (and maybe ever!). There were boiled shrimp w/ cocktail sauce, crab legs w/ melted butter, bake chicken (New Orleans-style), rolls, strawberry fruit punch, mixed fruit salad, pecan pie, ice tea and lemonade, and I don't know what else. I do know the student members now have a couple of great new cooks, and as an ol' bachelor, I envy the meals they can look forward to. So, take my advise. If you attend any of the remaining home games this fall, don't miss coming by your Chapter House. The student members are ready to welcome you and your family and/or guests, and will do all they can to help make your day at the Capstone a memorable one!
